Shady Spring Home Damaged by Derecho?

Our local Beckley team has been restoring fire damage for Shady Spring residents for over 24 years! Although summers are mild, summer storms do blow in on occasion. One type of severe storm damage is caused by derechos.

Derechos

The National Weather Service defines a derecho as a widespread, long-lived wind storm that is associated with a band of rapidly moving showers or thunderstorms. Derechos can produce destruction similar to tornadoes, but Derechos typically travel in one direction cutting a straight swath of destruction.

2012 Derecho

In 2012, a Derecho formed in Illinois and traveled 700 miles, causing damage in ten states, including West Virginia. According to the National Weather Service, wind speeds were recorded from 78 to 68 miles per hour, and left 688,000 residents and businesses in the Mountain State without power. Many trees fell, causing property damage.

2016 Derecho

On June 23, 2016, another derecho came through West Virginia, just before severe flooding later the same day.
