Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration

SERVPRO of Beckley is Your Non-Secret Weapon Against Fire Damage.

Residential fires cause unexpected problems, like smoke damage to your home interior and furniture in places far from the flames. Let SERVPRO® of Beckley help restore your space and get you back to enjoying your home.

SERVPRO of Beckley

Fire is fast. A moment’s inattention, or an unknown electrical problem, even a stray ember can cause a fire that changes from a small flicker to a house-engulfing blaze in just minutes. Even smaller fires, those that don’t leave a room, can leave smoke damage throughout the entire house. Unless the damage is properly and promptly remediated, it can last for years. Smoke damage from residential fires tends to get worse over time, and rapidly at that.

After a fire, if it is safe to go back into the house, and you’re calm enough to talk on the phone, give us a call to come out and assess the damage. If you think there isn’t anything to worry about, you have nothing to lose. If we find no damage, you’re in the clear. If we do find problems, we can follow through on the plans to remediate it and help to restore your home and belongings to their preloss conditions.

Residential Fire Damage

It sounds like a major “oh “duh” to say that house fires are hot. At the lowest levels, the temperatures are around 100 degrees F. At the ceiling, the temperatures can reach 1500 degrees F, dangerous even for firefighters. Remarkably, these fires are not hot enough to destroy the materials they burn. That is why there is residue (smoke, soot, and ash).

The residue in residential fires tends to include protein from food and its grease. It also includes residue materials from plastics and other non-organic materials from appliances, furniture, and other belongings.

The residue from proteins is tricky. It doesn’t appear right on surfaces away, and when it does, it doesn’t appear all at one time.

The residue from the non-organic material is often dangerous.

All smoke and soot from residential fires is corrosive; at the very least, it is unpleasant to breathe in and to contact. It continues to damage the structure and belongings while it remains in contact with the materials.

Our team members:

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Vent fumes away from people
  • Know which cleaning solutions, brushes, and techniques to apply to different materials and types of smoke damage
  • Often save more belongings than homeowners believe possible

Trivia Break!

The builders of the Empire State Building originally planned for blimps to dock at the spire, but they learned the winds made it impractical. Drats, that would have been a sight.
